Trump nominates Pete Hegseth for Defense Secretary position.
President-elect Trump has chosen Pete Hegseth to serve as his Secretary of Defense.
"I am proud to announce that I have nominated Pete Hegseth to serve as my Secretary of Defense," Trump said in a statement. "Pete has dedicated his entire life to serving the troops and our country. He is tough, smart, and a steadfast believer in putting America First."
Pete Hegseth's final day at Fox, where he co-hosted *FOX & Friends Weekend*, was Tuesday. Hegseth joined FOX News as a contributor in 2014 and became a regular co-host of *FOX & Friends Weekend* in late 2016. He was officially named co-host in January 2017.
"Pete Hegseth has been an outstanding host on *FOX & Friends* and FOX Nation, as well as a bestselling author for FOX News Books for nearly a decade," a FOX News Media spokesperson said in a statement. "His expertise and analysis, particularly on military issues, struck a chord with our viewers and played a key role in the success of the program. We are incredibly proud of his contributions to FOX News and wish him the best of luck in Washington."
Pete Hegseth, an Army National Guard veteran who served in Iraq and Afghanistan, has hosted the *FOX Nation Patriot Awards* since 2019. The event, which is the network's take on a Hollywood-style awards show, honors heroes like first responders.
This year, the Patriot Awards will take place on December 5 in Brookville, New York, but Hegseth will not be hosting the ceremony.
In addition to his work on *FOX Nation*, Hegseth has hosted popular specials like *Poison Ivy* and *The Miseducation of America*. He is also the author of the *FOX News Books* bestseller *War on Warriors*, which has sold nearly 150,000 copies since its June 2024 release, quickly rising to No. 1 on *The New York Times* bestseller list. Hegseth's earlier book, *Modern Warriors*, also debuted as a New York Times bestseller in 2020.
A strong advocate for military veterans, Hegseth has consistently championed veteran and military causes. During his time in the Army, he was awarded two Bronze Stars and a Combat Infantryman’s Badge for his service in active combat.
